Photo Shoot For The Whole Family

By Don Wong

It seems a lot easier to do things if the whole family is present. They make holiday celebrations more fun, and they provide comfort during challenging times. But there are things that seem more hard to do with them. Taking a family picture is one of those things. They may be fun, but family members make up the most boisterous of crowds when everyone gets together. This makes it difficult for a photographer to take their portrait as a group. But taking a family portrait is very important for every generation because it's a valuable heirloom.

They key to taking a family portrait, especially if you have a big family, is to plan it in detail. You would need to inform everyone of the schedule in advance because some aunts and uncles might be unable to attend on short notice. It's best to hold the photo session during another family celebration, like the anniversary or birthday of the head of the family, traditionally the grandparents. Everybody has already planned to attend it so there is a good chance everyone will be there. And since it's a party, everyone is likely to be in a jovial mood.

For a Classic family portrait, ask everyone to dress in their best suit or dress. You can also ask them for ideas for a themed portrait photography. Maybe you can all put on national costumes or dress in a particular shade. Though there are no rules on what the family should put on during their portrait photo shoot, a lot of families opt to dress in matching clothes to show their unity as a family. Furthermore, dressing up in costume can be exciting for the whole family.

Family portraits can be shot in a photographer's studio or just about anywhere else, but remember that seniors and the young ones will be present in the photo shoot so it's imperative to make the setting comfortable for everyone. Hold the photo shoot before doing any activity so everyone still looks fresh in the photo.

There are distinct characters in a family. Even if you are all the same attire and are told to smile at the same time, everyone's character will still come out in the photo. Not everybody will smile as impeccably as the others, and that's just okay. After all, the personality of the members is what makes a family portrait complete.
