Engagement ring components

When buying a diamond ring there are various points to consider in terms of prices and styles go. For starters you should determine how many stones you need integrated into the design. The most basic design is the solitaire diamond engagement ring. This is the classic type you see with one large gem in the centre. You can also opt for multiple stones with something like a halo ring. This kind of ring features multiple stones all linning the primary stone. In addition to the quantity of diamonds are the types of cuts you can purchase

Some of the most common cuts are the princess cut, square cut, cushion cut, and circle cut. The princess cut resembles a square with a taper on the side. This gives the top edge a very dramatic look as the diamond immediately falls back and tapers down toward the bottom. The next cut, the square cut is similar to the princess cut except for the fact that it does not feature a taper. This means that the main edge does not have as sharp a contrast as the princess cut, but still looks fairly dramatic. The next cut, the cushion cut, is a relatively complex cut. It stands out because it is a circular type shape with solid geometric cuts along the edges. This gives it a very unique angled taper along the sides. In order to have a good looking cushion cut it is important to start with a relatively large diamond so that the additional detail does not cut into the overall size of the gem too much. The circle cut would be a good choice for someone who wants a more round cut, but cannot afford a ring as large as someone getting a cushion cut. You will still get a unique circular appearance without having to sacrifice as much of the stone.

After you have chosen a cut you can now decide what type of material you want to use. While you may think that this is as simple as choosing a diamond, there are still many types of diamonds to choose from. Most people do not know that you can choose a pink, blue, yellow, or black diamond. This is of course in addition to the standard diamond. These diamonds are usually made from a normal diamond and have the addition of one element to add a certain hue. They are especially unique because of the wide range of tint and color options that are available. This allows engagement ring buyers to truly customize their ring and make a one of a kind purchase.

Once you have selected the above features there is still the matter of the setting. For every setting you have to choose design and material. The most common setting is a silver color band made from silver, white gold, or platinum, with a four prong casing. This four prong casing provides minimum coverage of the gem. You can opt to have thinner or thicker prongs, and often anywhere from 4 to 8. Another consideration will be the prong material. For example Platinum is reltively strong and for that reason can be made much thinner than a normal gold prong. So if you choose one of the harder materials you may use smaller stripss of metal to truly show off the diamond. Some people however opt for softer materials such as 24kt gold as this gives the ring a classic look. Either choice you make you won't go wrong provided that the above mentioned features were taken into consideration.

You now hopefully have a better understanding of a few of the main considerations you are likely to have to make when considering what type of options to get for your diamond ring. As you can see there's a great deal of options that most people are oblivious of until they are inside an engagement ring store ready to pull the trigger.
