With the information that can be found on a divorce record, it is no wonder that this record is being used as reference when conducting a background check especially if the investigation is all about the marital status of an individual. Those who have plans to marry conduct a background check on their partners prior to marriage in order to make sure that the one they are going to marry has no other obligations.

A public divorce record would contain information about the date and the place where the couple has finalized their separation. However, there is some information that is being kept away from the public in order to protect the individuals involved. One would not be able to find the reason why the couple decided to separate. This protects the dignity of both parties. The agreement between the custody of the child and the assets of the couple are also kept away from the public to prevent public scrutiny and questioning.

Only records since 1900 have been archived by the office of the office of the Vital Records Section. This is where all other public documents of the state have been kept. Requesting for the file would cost only $17 per record. The application form for the retrieval of the document has to be completely filled out. One should indicate he basic information of the document that is being obtained as well as the reason and the personal information of the one who filed the request. Only the involved individuals are given access to their files. Those who wish to view the files of other people have to get a court order prior to the request.

In Colorado, the office of the Vital Records Section does not release copies of divorce files. The office can only help verify information and to direct the requesting individual to the appropriate office or county where the record can be obtained. Residents of the state can obtain certified copies of divorce record from the county where the separation was granted.

The divorce record Colorado provides is also available over the Internet. This new method helps the one who files for the request to save time and effort since the results are displayed on the computer screen even when the search is done just at home.
