Choosing The Right Pageant Jewelry

By Rachael Gutierrez

When you start getting ready for a beauty pageant, the dress will likely be your first concern. However, the pageant jewelry you choose is just as important. The right piece of jewelry can turn a boring outfit into something stunning, while the wrong piece can ruin a great look. Even the tiniest part of your outfit can make an impact on the judges' final decision.

As you search for the perfect piece of jewelry, remember that each pageant will have a set of rules and regulations. If there are restrictions on the kinds of jewelry you are allowed to wear, you need to know this before you make your decision. Generally, the rules will be mentioned when you sign up, or made available online. However, just to be safe, you should double check the pageant's official rules before the day of the competition.

Any accessories that you choose should draw attention to key parts of the outfit, without being too flamboyant. In many cases, a small, delicate pendant can have more impact than a large, gaudy necklace. If you think it might be too much, it probably is; keep every piece low key, while still making sure that it looks good on the wearer.

Chances are you're only going to wear that perfect necklace for one night, which means you should keep the price down if possible. Look for affordable options, like renting or buying used. If price is a concern, and it likely is, keep that in mind before setting your heart on that perfect pendant.

Remember to make sure that the accessories you choose match the rest of your outfit, even if they aren't part of a set. A pair of earrings can go with a necklace if the metal and stones are the same, but if the differences are glaring, you should choose something else. Likewise, the colors and shapes should work with the dress that you choose, not against it.

You should also ensure the jewelry goes with the wearer's skin tone. Cooler skin tones tend to look good with silvers, while warm skin tones look good with gold or bronze. While there are always exceptions, this rule can help make sure that your skin shines.

Remember that you don't necessarily need a lot of accessories. Some girls like to wear bracelets, earrings, a necklace, and something in their hair. While this can look good, it's also acceptable to go for a simple necklace and earring combination, minus the extras. Choose a look that's right for your outfit, and don't worry if you think there's not enough.

Remember to double check that each piece is in good condition before the day of the competition. Small dents or spots of rust won't always be visible from a difference, but they can detract from the elegant look of your outfit. The judges will be looking for perfection, so polish and repair everything well in advance.

Whatever pageant jewelry you choose, make sure that you can feel confident wearing it. When you walk out on that stage, you should be able to do so with a genuine smile. The better you feel in your outfit, the easier it will be for you impress the judges and be true to yourself.
