Texas is among the state that has implemented the Freedom of Information Act. This has made the personal documents of the residents of the state open to the general public. Texas marriage records are only one of the many documents that the local residents of the state can access whenever they need it.

In Texas, marriage records are one of the most requested file of the state. Once a couple gets married, it is time for them to update their insurance and dependents. It would be difficult to request such update and changes if a couple cannot present a document that serves as proof of their marriage. Aside from that, marriage records are used when conducting genealogy research. The information that can be found on the certificate is vital in updating the family tree. Ironically, if the marriage is no longer working and the relationship leads to divorce, a marriage certificate is needed in order to process the separation.

A lot of information can be obtained in a marriage certificate that is issued in the state of Texas. Just like any other document, it contains the complete name of the couple who got married. One would also know when and where the marriage occurred. Also, the personal details of the couple are found on the marriage certificate which includes the occupation of the bride and the groom. One of the important information documented on the file is the name of the parents as well as the witnesses.

In order to obtain a copy of a marriage certificate in Texas, one has to pay $20 for the processing fee. Only marriages which have been registered since January 1966 are available in the state. One should know that only the bride or the groom is allowed to get a copy of their personal document. If both the bride and the groom cannot request it for some valid reason, the immediate family member is allowed.

One cannot get a certified copy of the marriage license at the office of the Vital Records Section of Texas. The office only helps verify the information and they will give you instructions as to where to get the record. One can only get it from the county clerk office where the couple got married. If going to any office is not possible at all, mail request is also possible but it is expected that the results are delivered after a few days since it was sent.

To avoid the long wait, one can search for the records with the help of the Internet. Not only that the records can be obtained faster compared to the traditional method, there is also no need to go to any office just to file the request, thus making it convenient for many. Public marriage records are now easier to obtain since it can be requested even at home. Many residents of Texas prefer to go online instead of going to the office to avoid the hassle.
