Joshua The Odyssey Is Enlightening

By Stacey Massey

The new venture from Dr. Theckedath Mathew, MD is a piece of fiction brilliantly based on documented historical accounts and is written in such detail that it is hard to believe it is not a true biography. Joshua The Odyssey Of An Ordinary Man follows the main characters through a point in time that is often the subject of speculation. It is an interesting read for both Christians and others who have interest in biblical times.

The setting for this story is the missing eighteen years during the lifetime of Jesus Christ. There is no mention of him in recorded biblical accounts during this time and the author uses the title character as a way to explore the most probable way he may have spent nearly two decades. The details are so painstakingly researched that at times it is easy to forget this is not an actual biography.

The last time Jesus is mentioned in the Bible is at age twelve, when he is banished from the temple for questioning the rabbi. After this he basically disappears for the next eighteen years, reappearing roughly three years before his infamous death. Other writings of this time show that he traveled to many countries before finally returning to Israel.

Based on various writings from that era that were banned from the Bible, as well as other points of reference, the author was able to put together a plausible account of those years. There are also many myths and stories that were circulated and bore influence on the development of the plot. Burning questions such as whether the prophet ever became a husband and father or not, where did he go and who influenced his thinking and philosophy will all be addressed.

He stands out as a staunch supporter of women's rights and ethical treatment. This is drawn from accounts of Jesus standing against a circle of men who gathered together and presented a prostitute to him for stoning. He pointed out that no man among them was innocent and that only he who was without sin has the right to cast any stones.

Continuing through the great lands of Athens, Rome, Egypt, Galilee, Babylon, Mathura and Taxila, Joshua embarks on many more adventures. He mixes with all classes of people from the lowest ranking to the highest and even draws influences from the era's greatest philosophers. Assisting those less fortunate and supporting the rights of the common working man compile a huge part of what he did.

Some of his more known activities were common occurrences during that time. He performed feats of healing and spent a great amount of effort teaching and bringing more followers to God. It is easy to mistake these accounts as completely factual because Dr. Mathew used his research to vividly describe the land and its people with complete clarity.

Taking the reader back to an important time in history over 2000 years passed, Joshua The Odyssey Of An Ordinary Man is as expertly narrated as it is historically detailed. Using all he gleaned about the era, the author creates a vivid scenario that draws the observer in and keeps them there. This book is something everyone should give a glance.
